‘He, who does not know his past, is not worthy of his future.’ (M. Rylsky)
Being knowledgeable about the history of our native land is sacred. Bearing a piece of our past in our hearts, passing this knowledge to our children and grandchildren is our greatest mission. Moreover, if one manages to carefully collect and record true historical facts and even go further and publish a book, we bow our heads low to that.
The past of Volyn is undoubtedly rich: history, customs, traditions, and lifestyle. However, are there many studies about Volyn published in recent decades, one may ask? Yet, this question remains rhetorical. A team of professionals, Ukrainian scientists, under the head of Iryna Voronchuk together presents this one-of-a-kind collection.
The book is valuable due to the research provided, as it is based on the materials of the record books of the town and zemstvo (territorial) courts of the 16th century, which are stored in the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in the city of Kyiv. This allows us to explore the lives of our Volyn ancestors. The publication consists of 739 pages, which contain 320 documents. The book is excellently illustrated.
